An 18-wheeler crashed off an Interstate 40 exit ramp Thursday, spilling its load of scrap metal and briefly trapping the driver inside.
It happened about 12:30 p.m. on the exit ramp from eastbound I-40 to Arkansas 365, the Morgan-Maumelle exit.
Firefighters on the scene said the driver was conscious when they freed him from the wreckage. He was taken by ambulance from the scene to a local hospital.
The exit ramp remained blocked at 1:20 p.m. while multiple tow trucks worked to remove the heavily damaged truck.
Police on the scene said the load, which included crushed, compacted cars, would be cleared later after the exit ramp reopened.
