Bicyclist killed in Clay County crash

A 72-year-old bicyclist was killed Wednesday after he collided with a vehicle in Clay County, authorities said.

Arkansas State Police say it happened about 5 p.m. north of Corning at Arkansas 328 and U.S. 67.

According to a report, Johnie C. Brooks of Naylor, Mo., was stationary on his bicycle along westbound Arkansas 328 before he "started moving and turned into a" westbound 2011 Jeep Wrangler.

Brooks died from unspecified injuries. The Jeep driver wasn't hurt.

Conditions at the time were said to be clear and dry.

The death was the 276th in a traffic crash in Arkansas so far this year, according to preliminary figures.
