Country rocker

Country rocker Logan Mize headlines the concluding show in the Showtime Concert Series, 8 p.m. Saturday on Union Square, 300 N. Jefferson St., El Dorado. Acts to be named will open the show at 7.

Folk workshop

Banjo player Lucas Pool, who has performed with Steve Martin and the band the Moonlight Ramblers, returns to Pool's hometown of Mountain View to host the annual String Band Weekend at the Ozark Folk Center State Park on Friday-Saturday.

The workshop, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day, will cover performing traditional Ozark music in an ensemble setting on banjo, guitar, fiddle and mandolin. Students should have a basic understanding of their instrument and some playing experience. It will conclude with a Saturday night performance in the Ozark Folk Center's Music Auditorium.

Shark bites

The Breckenridge Village 12 in west Little Rock will be among the cinemas putting Syfy network's Sharknado 2: The Second One on the big screen at 8 p.m. today.

In addition to the made-for-Syfy film, which debuted on the network July 30, the screening will include a sneak peek into the making of the film with 10 minutes of "exclusive, never-before-seen footage," including a look at the special effects and "hilarious bloopers."

Ballet competition

Five choreographers -- Sayoko Knode, former principal dancer with Idaho Dance Theatre; Jerry Opdenaker, former principal dancer for the Milwaukee, Pennsylvania and Kansas City, Mo., ballets and Ballet Florida; Brandon Ragland, dancer with the Louisville (Ky.) Ballet; Christopher Stuart, dancer with Nashville (Tenn.) Ballet; and Hilary Fullmer Wolfley, a 2013 graduate of Brigham Young University -- will show off their work as they compete in Ballet Arkansas' first "Visions Choreographic Competition," 7 p.m. Saturday at the Ron Robinson Theater, 100 River Market Ave., Little Rock.

A panel of judges and the audience will determine the winner, who will receive a commission to set a new full-length piece for company dancers in Ballet Arkansas' April show.

"A Midsummer Night's Dream," 5-7 p.m. Sunday at South on Main, 1304 Main St., Little Rock, will benefit Arkansas Festival Ballet.
