JONESBORO — An Arkansas State University vice chancellor says he doesn't expect charges to be filed in the freak injury of a student who was impaled in the neck by a broken golf club.
Natalie Jo Eaton was hit in the neck Tuesday night at Arkansas State University's Kappa Alpha fraternity house. A sharp fragment struck part of her spine and nicked an artery.
Witnesses say a 19-year-old fraternity member was using the club like a baseball bat to hit a football when it splintered. It traveled 30 feet before impaling Eaton.
She is being treated at the Regional One Medical Center in Memphis. A hospital official said she remained in critical condition Friday.
Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Rick Stripling told KAIT-TV that university authorities don't suspect foul play.
