Texarkana airport officials accept federal grant

TEXARKANA — Texarkana airport officials have accepted more than $400,000 in federal funding to rehabilitate the airport's runway and allow an airline to keep operating.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that the Texarkana Regional Airport Authority Board on Thursday accepted the Federal Aviation Administration grant. Officials plan to restore the airport's primary runway to its original condition.

The airport director says construction will likely run from December to May. Repairs are estimated to cost $7 million.

He says the airport won't risk losing American Eagle's business. Construction will take place at night to allow the airline's flights to keep their usual schedule.
