1 seriously injured in fall off interstate

A person was seriously injured Friday afternoon in West Memphis in a fall from an elevated stretch of Interstate 40 approaching the Hernando de Soto Bridge, according to state police.

Emergency personnel responded about 3:45 p.m. to the scene, where the victim had fallen onto the ground from the eastbound side of the interstate, state police spokesman Bill Sadler said. The distance of the fall was unclear.

Sadler said the victim, who was taken to a hospital in Memphis, may have been a construction or repair worker.

The Crittenden County sheriff's office was investigating the incident late Friday, Sadler said.
