Tots left in hot car; LR father arrested

A man was arrested Friday over allegations he left two young children inside a hot car while he shopped at a North Little Rock cellphone store.

Officers responded about 1:10 p.m. to Cricket Wireless at 4832 North Hills Blvd. Jeremy Nelson had been inside the store for at least 30 minutes while two children, ages 2 and 4, were in the backseat of his car with the backseat windows rolled halfway down, according to police. The vehicle was parked out of Nelson's sight about 40 yards away from the store, police reported.

Officers reported it was 91 degrees with a heat index of 99 when they responded. No injuries were reported.

Nelson, 28, of Little Rock, was arrested and charged with first-degree endangering the welfare of a minor. He was being held in lieu of $2,500 bond at the Pulaski County jail late Friday.

LR man arrested on kid-porn counts

A Little Rock man was arrested Thursday and charged with numerous counts of child pornography possession after an investigation by the Arkansas attorney general's office.

Authorities searched the home of Roberto Almaraz at 5117 W. 10th St. and seized several desktop and laptop computers, cellphones, and tablets, Attorney General Dustin McDaniel said in a news release.

McDaniel said the attorney general's office and Little Rock and Benton police began investigating Almaraz last year.

Almaraz, 49, was charged with 30 counts of distributing, possessing or viewing matter depicting sexually explicit conduct involving a child. He remained at the Pulaski County jail late Friday, where he was being held in lieu of $250,000 bond.

1 held in stabbings of 3 in Sherwood

A man suspected of stabbing three people at a Sherwood park earlier this month was arrested Friday.

Jevon Shearer, 18, turned himself in to Sherwood police about 5:45 p.m., according to police spokesman Lt. Jamie Michaels. Shearer was charged with one count of second-degree battery and two counts of first-degree battery.

Shearer is suspected of stabbing three people Aug. 12 during a fight at Lake Cherrywood Park, 300 Summitt St. The victims were each hospitalized and have since been released, Michaels said.

Shearer was being held in the Pulaski County jail late Friday in lieu of $100,000 bond.

Police: Shots fired after fight rebuffed

A man fired a gun after unsuccessfully trying to pick a fight in North Little Rock on Thursday, police reported.

North Little Rock police responded to the 100 block of Blenden Drive, where Anthony Turner told officers he had been mowing the lawn when Kevin Harris tried to "coax him into a physical confrontation," according to an arrest report. No fight happened.

But as Harris was walking away, he purportedly fired a gun, according to police.

Harris, 21, was charged with aggravated assault and was being held at the Pulaski County jail with bail set at $25,000.
