Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announces his endorsement for U.S. Senate hopeful Tom Cotton on Monday.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee announced his endorsement of U.S. Senate candidate Tom Cotton to reporters Monday at a news conference at Central Flying Service on his way to Rogers.

His announcement comes less than a week after the congressman was endorsed by former Republican presidential candidate and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney in North Little Rock.

Huckabee, who in 2008 ran for the Republican nomination for president, spoke highly of Cotton and his campaign.

“I appreciate the opportunity to stand here with Tom Cotton. This congressman has been in a tough race for U.S. Senate, and there’s no doubt in my mind that this is an important race — not just for Arkansas, but for the rest of the country,” Huckabee said.

Cotton said that he appreciated Huckabee’s work as a statesman in Arkansas and attributed his work to be a factor in his campaign.

“It’s [Huckabee’s] hard work that people like me are able to run and compete and win elections in Arkansas now as a Republican,” Cotton said.

Cotton’s Democratic opponent, Sen. Mark Pryor, has previously been endorsed by the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare and the Arkansas Education Association in April, Pryor’s spokesman Erik Dorey said.

No scheduled endorsement events for Pryor have been announced just yet, but Dorey said they will be announced closer to their arrival dates.
