Lincoln woman dies in single-vehicle wreck

A single-vehicle crash on Arkansas 59 in Washington County on Wednesday evening left a woman dead and a man injured, the Arkansas State Police said.

Kevin Cain, 40, of Fayetteville was driving a Chevrolet truck north on the highway in Evansville when it swerved into the ditch on the east side of the road, according to a preliminary fatal accident report. Cain overcorrected, sending the vehicle across the northbound and southbound lanes and crashing into an embankment on the highway's west side, the report states. The car then caught fire, state police said.

Cain's passenger, Danielle Candace, 34, of Lincoln, died at the scene of the crash, authorities said. Cain was taken to Washington Regional Medical Center, where he was treated for his injuries. He was released Thursday morning.

Cain was booked into the Washington County jail Thursday morning and charged with negligent homicide, driving on a suspended license and reckless driving, according to the Washington County sheriff’s office.

He was released from the detention center at 9:18 a.m., officials say. Cain’s first appearance in Washington County Circuit Court is scheduled for Monday.

The weather was described as clear and the road dry at the time of the crash, which is still under investigation by Arkansas State Police.

Candace was the 291st person to die in a vehicle accident on an Arkansas road so far this year, according to state police figures.
