Pearcy man charged in trooper assault

TEXARKANA — An Arkansas man has been charged with aggravated assault after he rammed a state patrol car during a chase through three counties, police said.

The Texarkana Gazette reported that 41-year-old Reuben Stapleton of Pearcy was charged with the felony this week in Howard County.

Arkansas State Police say the chase began Aug. 18 in Garland County on U.S. 70 after a deputy spotted fictitious tags on Stapleton's vehicle.

Police say Stapleton rammed a state patrol car during the chase that reached speeds of 75 mph. The trooper driving the car was treated at a Garland County hospital and released.

Additional felony charges could be filed in Pike and Garland counties.

Online jail records didn't indicate an attorney.
