Vermont tunesmith will stop at South on Main

Anais Mitchell
Anais Mitchell

Anais Mitchell, an acclaimed Vermont singer-songwriter, will make her first visit to Arkansas to perform today at South on Main. Jesse Aycock will open the show at 7:30 p.m.

Admission is $15 for reserved seating or $10 for general admission.

Mitchell has released five albums, the latest of which is Child Ballads, a collection of Celtic and British Isles ballads. In 2012, she released Young Man in America. An article in Acoustic Guitar magazine called her "fearlessly emotive" and compared her to Bob Dylan, Leonard Cohen and Gillian Welch.

In 2010, she released a folk opera, Hadestown, a modern re-telling of the Orpheus myth, which featured guest singers Greg Brown, Ani DiFranco, Justin Vernon (Bon Iver), Ben Knox Miller (The Low Anthem) and Petra, Rachel and Tanya Haden.

Little Rock native and Lucero frontman Ben Nichols takes the stage for a 7 p.m. solo show Friday at the Central Arkansas Library System's Ron Robinson Theater. Tickets are $20.

Nichols has released 10 studio albums with the critically acclaimed, Memphis-based Lucero. Lucero: Live From Atlanta, a career-spanning double album, was released earlier this month and is a fitting document of the band's rowdy live shows.

Nichols also released the acoustic solo EP The Last Pale Light in the West in 2009. The album was inspired by the Cormac McCarthy novel Blood Meridian.
