Little Rock police are investigating after crews responding to a house fire found the bodies of a man and a woman early Friday morning.

Lt. Glenn King said their bodies were taken to the state Crime Laboratory for autopsies, but it appeared they died from fire-related injuries.

He said the deaths appear suspicious.

Crews were called at 3:49 a.m. to a duplex at 2687 S. Spring St. King said the front door was open and the bodies of a black man and a black woman were inside. The victims haven’t been identified, but King said police believe at least the woman is a resident.

King said the investigation was being treated as “suspicious” because of the deaths “and some other things we’re not certain about.”

Police remained on the scene at 8 a.m. with crime scene tape strung across the 2600 block of Spring Street. Little Rock Police Chief Kenton Buckner arrived at the scene about 8 a.m., talking with officers in the crime scene but saying later he had no additional information about what had happened.

At one point, a woman in tears approached the crime scene tape asking reporters if the man who died was the father of her child.

"That's his truck," she said, tears streaming down her face as a pickup was towed from the home's driveway.
