Bergman superintendent back at work after DWI citation

BERGMAN — The Bergman School Board has rescinded a suspension for its superintendent, who was cited for driving while intoxicated and driving left of center last month.

The board had suspended Joe Couch on Nov. 20. The Harrison Daily Times reported Wednesday that Couch returned to work Tuesday after the board lifted the suspension Monday night.

Board president Bill Sansing said the recent weeks had been difficult for the district but that it was time to move on with the district's business.

Couch is also president of the Arkansas Activities Association Board of Directors.

A month ago, Bergman High School was the only public school in Arkansas identified as "exemplary" under the state Department of Education's annual accountability report.
