Team Burke now includes extra captain

At least St. Louis Rams players adhered to the NFL’s uniform policy while making their “hands up, don’t shoot” gesture before Sunday’s game against the Oakland Raiders.

Jack Burke Jr. was a Ryder Cup captain twice.

Now it's his wife's turn.

Robin Burke has been selected as U.S. captain for the Curtis Cup in 2016. The matches will be June 10-12 at Dun Laoghaire Golf Club outside Dublin. The Americans are coming off a 13-7 victory over Great Britain and Ireland earlier this year in St. Louis.

Burke was runner-up in the 1997 U.S. Women's Amateur and played in the Curtis Cup the following year, going 2-1. She has competed in 35 USGA championships, including the U.S. Women's Open three times.

Her husband is a two-time major champion and owner of Champions Golf Club in Houston, where Robin Burke serves as vice president.

"My husband played on five Ryder Cup teams, was a Ryder Cup captain twice and an assistant to Hal Sutton in 2004," Burke said. "Hopefully, this new responsibility will provide me equal talking time over dinner."

Carried away

A loud Brooklyn Nets fan was carried from his Madison Square Garden seat Tuesday night kicking and screaming.

There was plenty of commotion in the upper deck with around five minutes to play in the third quarter of Brooklyn's 98-93 victory over the Knicks as a man with one leg was yanked from his seats -- without his prosthetic limb.

According to two MSG security guards who declined to be identified, the man pulled off his prosthetic leg and hit another fan with it, inciting a ruckus in the stands.

"They grabbed him and pulled him out," an MSG staffer said. "I don't know if he was arrested, but they got him out of there so he didn't start a riot."

Hands up

The NFL said it won't discipline the five St. Louis Rams players who gestured "hands up, don't shoot" in reference to nearby Ferguson, Mo., when they ran onto the field Sunday.

"Luckily they weren't wearing non-sanctioned gloves when they did it, or it would've been $10,000 fines for everybody," wrote Dwight Perry of The Seattle Times.

Winter wonderland

Baltimore Ravens defensive tackle Timmy Jernigan was late for a defensive meeting last week because he was building a snowman.

"If I've said it once, I've said it a million times," wrote Reggie Hayes of The News-Sentinel of Fort Wayne, Ind.. "NFL players are out of control."

Off line

The Washington Redskins had a "Cyber Monday" deal for season tickets. By telephone only.

"Sounds like Dan Snyder and company get the concept of 'Cyber Monday' about as well as they get the idea of putting together a decent football team," wrote Janice Hough of leftcoastsportsbabe.com.

Pork futures

From RJ Currie of sportsdeke.com: "Several fire departments rallied to rescue over 1,400 piglets from an overturned trailer near Indianapolis. Over in D.C., there aren't enough firefighters to save RGIII's bacon."
