Author and ESPN anchor Jeremy Schaap will discuss his experiences in sports journalism at "An Evening with Jeremy Schaap," the Central Arkansas Library System's J.N. Architecture lecture
Geoff Winningham, on the faculty at Rice University in Houston, will give a lecture titled "Working in the Eye of the Sun: Photographing the Vernacular Architecture of Arkansas" at 6 p.m. Tuesday in the lecture hall of the Arkansas Arts Center in MacArthur Park, East Ninth and Commerce streets. A 5:30 reception will precede the talk.
Winningham, working in the early '80s with Cy Sutherland of the University of Arkansas School of Architecture, traveled throughout the state, identifying and photographing vernacular forms -- everyday structures built by and for ordinary people, including houses, barns, silos, churches, schools and stores. Selections from his collection of hundreds of black-and-white images appear in Of the Soil, a book recently published by the University of Arkansas Press.
The lecture is under the auspices of the Architecture and Design Network, which includes the Arkansas Arts Center, UA's Fay Jones School of Architecture and the Central Arkansas Section of the Arkansas chapter of the American Institute of Architecture, with support from a grant from the Arkansas Humanities Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities.

Conway Wintersong
The Conway Men's Chorus will give its 17th annual Wintersong Christmas Holiday choral concert at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Donald W. Reynolds Performance Hall, University of Central Arkansas, 201 Donaghey Ave., Conway.
Sam Huskey will conduct Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "On This Very Christmas Night," plus standard carols and seasonal songs and an audience singalong. Murder auditions
Community Theatre of Little Rock will hold open auditions for Rehearsal for Murder by Columbo creators Richard Levinson and William Link, 7 p.m. Dec. 14-15 at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 310 W. 17th St., Little Rock.
