Sharon Priest, the Downtown Little Rock Partnership’s executive director, will retire at the end of January, the partnership announced Monday.

Priest, who has served as executive director for the partnership since 2003, helped spearhead multiple projects for the group, including moving the offices of the organization from their location on Capitol Avenue, to Main Street, and the revitalization of Main Street, the partnership said in a news release.

Priest was the mayor of Little Rock from 1991 to 1994, and was Secretary of State for Arkansas from 1995 until 2002.

Priest is most proud of the work she did in MacArthur Park, she said in a statement. Priest helped clean-up the park, and raise money for the MacArthur Unleashed Dog Park, the first of its kind in Little Rock.

“On behalf of the board, we wish to thank Sharon for all her hard work and we appreciate her dedication to the growth of downtown Little Rock,” Susie Smith, President of the Downtown Little Rock Partnership board of directors, said in the release.

A search for a new executive director will begin immediately for the group.
