Gadgets & Gizmos: Kitchen Curry Master

The Kitchen Curry Master
The Kitchen Curry Master

One of the challenges of learning to make Indian food is the difficulty finding many of the spices necessary at the supermarket. Sure, you can buy curry spice mix already made up, but true curry doesn't come in a jar. Most cooks prefer to mix their own spices and create a signature blend. The Kitchen Curry Master includes all of the necessary spices (ground cumin and coriander, fenugreek, mustard seeds, whole cumin seed, turmeric, garam masala, chili powder, star anise, cinnamon, peppercorns, cloves and green cardamom), a brushed stainless-steel spice tin with see-through lid, and a step-by-step cookbook and spice guide. The kit includes enough spices to prepare all of the recipes featured in the book at least once. Recipes include a variety of vegetarian and meat dishes and all are gluten-free. Our only complaint about the kit is that the smaller tins for the individual spices do not have lids, meaning the kit isn't airtight and the spices will lose their flavor sooner. And if you happen to drop or tilt the tin, the spices will spill out.
