Boy had BB gun on school bus, district says

Police were called to a Little Rock elementary school after an 8-year-old student took in a BB gun that looked like a semiautomatic weapon, authorities said.

The Little Rock Police Department said it was called about 9 a.m. Wednesday to Brady Elementary School, 7915 W. Markham St., to complete an informational report on the incident.

According to that report, Little Rock School District security said the boy told them he "brought the gun to the school because other kids have been harassing/picking on him."

A Little Rock School District spokesman provided a copy of a statement sent to parents from principal Tyrone Harris, who indicated the student took the unloaded gun onto a bus and that it was "immediately confiscated by our Safety and Security officer."

"Due process was immediately followed and the student will be disciplined according to the Little Rock School District handbook," Harris wrote.

The police report described the weapon as a "semi-automatic looking BB gun" and says it isn't known whether the gun was returned to the child's parent or seized by the school.

No injuries were reported, and it wasn't clear how school officials first learned the boy had the weapon.
