Frontier Airlines ends service to Branson Airport

BRANSON — Frontier Airlines says it will not resume air service next year from the Branson Airport to Denver.

The flights ended in October, but the service was seasonal and it wasn't clear whether Frontier would return. The airline told The Springfield News-Leader on Wednesday that it would not resume the flights in 2015.

Company spokesman Todd Lehmacher said the airline has changed its emphasis from connecting passengers going through Denver to offering low fares for local point-to-point service. He said the Branson airport doesn't fit that new strategy.

At one point, Frontier flew from Branson to Denver, Austin, Phoenix and Milwaukee. Southwest Airlines ended its service from Branson in June.

Branson AirExpress, operated by Elite Airways, is now the only air service out of Branson. It flies to Chicago and Houston.
