Are You an Authentic 19th Century Farb?

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will hold Are You an Authentic 19th Century Farb? from 3-4 p.m. Friday at the Jacksonport Courthouse. When portraying someone from an earlier time period, it’s difficult to be authentic. Participants will join a park interpreter to test their skills in identifying items that did or did not exist during the American Civil War. Admission is $5.

The Rented Christmas

SEARCY — The Performing Arts Center on the Square will present The Rented Christmas, written by Norman C. Ahern Jr. and Yvonne Ahern Dec. 12-14 and 19-21 at 219 W. Arch Ave. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m., with dinner at 6:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays, and matinee performances on Sundays are at 1:30 p.m., with brunch at 12:30 p.m. For dinner and the show, tickets are $29 for adults and $24 for seniors 55 or older and students. Living Windows and Christmas Parade

CALICO ROCK — The Calico Rock Museum will present The Peppersauce Players’ second annual Living Windows from 5:3o-6:30 p.m. on Main Street, with 25 storefront windows depicting 15 scenes of an old-fashioned Christmas. Each window will feature actors in costumes moving among the furnishings and props. The Baptist Youth Group will offer a live Nativity, and the Calico Rock High School Band will play in Knowles Furniture Store. The lighted Santa Claus parade will begin at 7 p.m. on Main Street. Calico Rock’s historic Main Street is on Arkansas 5, starting at the White River Bridge. Second Saturday Bingo

HEBER SPRINGS — Second Saturday Bingo will be held at St. Albert Catholic Church, 21 Park Road. Games will begin at 5:30 p.m., with a $500 cash prize. Food, including homemade desserts, will be available at the concession stand.

Making Christmas Stockings Workshop

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State park will hold a Making Christmas Stockings Workshop from 10 a.m. to noon at the Jacksonport Courthouse. The stockings that were hung by the fire on Christmas Eve in the 1800s were the children’s regular socks. Join the park interpreter to make a stocking out of felt, glitter, ribbons and other decorations. This is a family-oriented workshop. Admission is free.

Christmas Brunch and Auction

JACKSONVILLE — The Beta Psi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma will hold its annual Christmas Brunch and Auction at 10 a.m. Saturday at the home of Sharon Johnson, 2400 Estates Court in Jacksonville. Victorian Holiday Ball

POWHATAN — A Victorian Holiday Ball will be held from 7-10 p.m. at Powhatan Historic State Park. Admission is $10 per person. Civil War Medicine

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will present Civil War Medicine from 2-3 p.m. at the Jacksonport Courthouse. Participants will find out how physicians, yarb doctors and granny women treated patients with botanicals found at the river’s edge during and after the Civil War. Medicinal principles and uses of common plants will be discussed. Admission is free.

Cabot Christmas Parade

CABOT — The annual Cabot Christmas Parade will be held at 3 p.m. The parade route will be from South Pine Street/Arkansas 89 at Panther Trail north past the Knights Shopping Center, left onto Pond Street and will end at Central Elementary School. The parade’s theme is “A Cabot Candyland Christmas.” Trophies will be awarded in five categories: school/civic, church, business, animal/equestrian and general/personal.

ASU-Beebe Open Enrollment Day

BEEBE — Arkansas State University-Beebe will hold an Open Enrollment Day for new and returning students from 2-5 p.m. at the ASU-Beebe Science Building. CAVE CITY/STRAWBERRY — White River Health System will hold two community open houses Tuesday in Cave City and Strawberry. Scholarship Application Deadline

WHITE COUNTY — The deadline for applying for White County Single Parent Scholarship Fund Inc. spring 2015 scholarships is Jan. 7. The fund awards scholarships to White County single parents who have minor children and are pursuing postsecondary education in order to achieve skilled employment. Toy Drive

PANGBURN — Pangburn Middle School is conducting its third annual toy drive to contribute to Festival of the Stars for Arkansas Children’s Hospital. Mary, dressed as a frontier woman, will talk about traveling to Arkansas from North Carolina in 1855. She will display and discuss the items that she brought with her from North Carolina, what they mean to her and how she uses those items in her home. Admission is free.

Christmas Mesh Wreath Class

ASH FLAT — A Christmas Mesh Wreath Class, taught by Susan Hill, will meet from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Dec. 20 in the Meeting Room of the Ash Flat Library. The cost of $25 includes all supplies. Children’s Story Hour

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will offer a Children’s Story Hour for children of all ages from 10-11 a.m. Dec. 20 at the Jacksonport Courthouse. The story, “Christmas,” is an excerpt from Little House in the Big Woods, by Laura Ingalls Wilder. Children will learn about how Laura, Mary, Carrie and Maw and Paw spent Christmas in the Big Woods of Wisconsin in the early 1870s and how their experiences compare to Christmas in 2014. Admission is free.

Myths, Superstitions and Old Wives Tales

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will hold Myths, Superstitions and Old Wives Tales from 2-3 p.m. Dec. 20 at the Jacksonport Courthouse. Why in the world would anyone eat a roasted owl? Can you cure a sore throat using only a piece of string? Are spiders really bad luck? All of these topics and more will be discussed. Participants will discover if there is any truth to the stories and legends. Admission is free.

Making Clay Christmas Ornaments for Kids

NEWPORT — Jacksonport State Park will present Making Clay Christmas Ornaments for Kids, geared to children ages 7-14, from 2-3 p.m. Dec. 21 at the Jacksonport Courthouse. Children will join the park interpreter to make easy and attractive clay ornaments for Christmas. Children are asked to not wear good clothes and to be prepared to get their hands sticky. Admission is free.

AARP Christmas Potluck

CABOT — Cabot’s AARP Chapter will have a Christmas potluck supper, a short business meeting and musical entertainment at 6 p.m. Dec. 22 at the Cabot Senior Center, 600 N. Grant St. Jerry Miller and Val Wilson from Mount Carmel Baptist Church will present a program of Christmas singalong and secular and sacred music. Members and prospective members are invited. First Day Hikes

POWHATAN — Lake Charles State Park will hold its annual First Day Hike at 7 p.m. Jan. 1 at the park, 3705 Arkansas 25. Basic Orienteering Class

POWHATAN — A basic orienteering class will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. March 14 at Lake Charles State Park . The cost of the class is $8 with a limit of 10 per class. Learn how to use a map and compass through hands-on training and activities. No experience is necessary. There will be a beginner course with teams at the end of the workshop.
