A Conway man was charged with robbery, resisting arrest and theft after attempting to steal ox tails from a Little Rock grocery store, police say.

According to a Little Rock Police Department report, officers responded to a call about a theft about 1:18 p.m. at the Kroger at 6420 Colonel Glenn Road.

A Kroger employee reported that he saw a man hide ox tails in his jacket and leave the store, the report said. An officer then caught up with the man, identified by authorities as Leandrew Pate, 58, of Conway.

Pate attempted to run from the officer several times, the report said, and the officer had to accept help from a nearby witness to keep Pate in custody. The officer could not get handcuffs on Pate until another officer arrived to assist, police noted.

During the scramble with Pate, the three ox tails he had attempted to steal from the store fell out of his jacket, and two were picked up and taken by patrons in the parking lot, police said. The third was left open on the lot.

The theft cost Kroger $33.35, as they were not able to recover any of the merchandise.

Pate was taken to the Pulaski County Jail where he is being held in lieu of $2,500 bond.
