Christmas Coffee

Punch pours holiday cheer at Governor's Mansion fete

It just wouldn't be the Christmas Coffee without Peggy Whitehurst's coffee punch. The annual coffee at the Governor's Mansion on Dec. 8 is hosted by the Salvation Army Central Arkansas Area Command's Women's Auxiliary, and Whitehurst, an auxiliary member, said maybe something different should be served this year. No. The other members wouldn't hear of it.

So, there it was, the coffee punch, a family recipe made with chocolate and vanilla ice cream and strong coffee that is in the auxiliary's cookbook.

Besides punch, guests also enjoyed finger sandwiches and sweets along with entertainment provided by Episcopal Collegiate Middle School Chorus and Upper School Choir directed by Stephen Vano.

Guests were met at the door by first lady Ginger Beebe, Salvation Army Major Dee Ann Glick, Maria Summers and Arlene Kirk along with the traditional red kettle found outside many central Arkansas stores during the Christmas season. Donations from the event will go toward providing a Christmas for needy Arkansas families.
