Williams Baptist women fall, men win

The Williams Baptist women lost 59-54 to Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday in Hannibal, Mo.

Hannibal-LaGrange led 35-27 at halftime.

Alisha Stone led Williams Baptist (4-6, 3-3 American Midwest Conference) with 15 points followed by Michaela Thompson’s 14. Taylor Williams added 10 points for Williams Baptist while Meagan Goza led the team with 10 rebounds.

In the men’s game, Abel Yekeh had 25 points and nine rebounds to lead Williams Baptist (6-4, 5-1 American Midwest) to a 64-45 victory over Hannibal-LaGrange. James McClain added 23 points and nine rebounds for Williams Baptist.

Ozarks men win, women lose

Ted Beard IV had 20 points and 11 rebounds, while Kelby Robinson added 14 points and 13 rebounds to lead the University of the Ozarks men (4-4, 2-3 American Southwest Conference) to an 84-80 victory over Texas-Tyler (1-6, 0-4) on Saturday in Clarksville. Josh Berard scored 20 points and Jace Richardson added 18 for Ozarks.

In the women’s game, No. 9 Texas-Tyler (6-1, 3-1) cruised past Ozarks 88-62. Madison Sherrer scored 14 points to lead Ozarks (5-4, 2-3), while Ashley Hipps had 13, Bryanna Moltz added 12 and Jordana Andrews scored 10.

Lyon women’s streak continues

The Lyon College women extended their winning streak to four games with a 68-56 nonconference victory over Southwestern Christian of Bethany, Okla., on Saturday at James C. Becknell Gymnasium in Batesville.

The Scots (7-3) overcame 26 turnovers by forcing 19 by the Lady Eagles (4-8) and holding a 43-30 rebounding advantage. Lyon had a 27-19 halftime lead despite shooting 38.7 percent from the floor. They warmed up in the second half, shooting 57.9 percent.

Carina Jackson scored a game-high 19 points to lead Lyon. Elliott Taylor added 17 points and Taylor Gaedtke had 11. Adrianna White led Southwestern Christian with 17 points and Brittany Hamilton chipped in 10.
