MEMPHIS — Prosecutors say a 21-year-old man has been indicted on a first-degree murder charge in a shooting that began with a group of men throwing items at a car.
The Shelby County district attorney's office said Adair Dorsey is being held without bail in the Shelby County jail.
Prosecutors said the shooting victim, 38-year-old Barbara Garner, was a passenger in a vehicle being driven by her husband Aug. 16 when it was hit by a bottle.
Authorities said the husband stopped the car and Garner stepped out to tell a group of men to stop throwing items at the car.
One of the men fired a shot, striking Garner in the back of the head and killing her.
Online court records did not show whether Dorsey had a lawyer Friday.
