Wintry mix possible for parts of state

Parts of Arkansas may see a wintry mix as a system moves through Wednesday night into Thursday morning, the National Weather Service said Tuesday.

John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist with the agency in North Little Rock, said "light wintry precipitation cannot be ruled out" along the state's northernmost two rows of counties, though it's still too early to say for sure what will fall.

"This looks to be a marginal situation that could go either way (cold rain vs. wintry mixture), so it will be important to keep an eye on this situation as it develops," he said in an email.

Up to half an inch of rain could fall, Robinson said, noting that north Arkansas may see another half inch — and possibly more wintry precipitation, too — in a second system late Thursday night through Saturday. The southern half of the state is expected to get up to 1 1/2 inches of rain as that system moves through.
