Director to resign at history agency

The head of the state's historical agency announced her plans to resign after a conversation with members of Gov.-elect Asa Hutchinson's transition team.

Martha Miller, the director of the Department of Arkansas Heritage, sent an email to the department's staff saying that she learned Tuesday that Hutchinson, "has decided to take a new direction" with the director's position.

She said she will resign before Hutchinson takes office Jan. 13.

Miller has been the department's director for two years. Before that, she was a deputy director for museums.

The department is tasked with preserving and promoting the state's heritage, overseeing several centers and museums and coordinating with different preservation and cultural groups.

Miller was not available for comment Tuesday afternoon. Calls to a Hutchinson spokesman were not returned late Tuesday.
