Great American league names sportsmanship honors

RUSSELLVILLE — The Great American Conference says the football program at Northwestern Oklahoma State has picked up one of the league's sportsmanship awards.

The conference this week announced honors for its fall sports. Northwestern Oklahoma's football team won the school's first league sportsmanship award in any sport. The same was true for Arkansas-Monticello's women's cross country team.

Other sportsmanship honors went to Harding's women's soccer team, Southwestern Oklahoma's volleyball team and Southern Nazarene's men's cross country team.

The Great American Conference says the goal of the honors is to promote good sportsmanship among teams and their fans.

The winners of the Great American Conference Team Sportsmanship Awards were chosen by league game officials and coaches on the basis of a point system.
