Singers, drummers, guitarists, horns fill musical bill

Chris Duarte will return to central Arkansas for a show at Juanita's, with Steve Hester & Deja VooDoo opening the show at 8 p.m. today.

Duarte, a blues-rock guitarist from Austin, Texas, will be accompanied by bassist Dustin Sargent and drummer John McKnight. Duarte cites as his influences saxophonist John Coltrane and guitarist John McLaughlin.

Duarte has released 14 albums, the latest of which, Lucky 13, came out earlier this year.

Admission is $12.

Framing Hanley will perform at 9 p.m. Saturday. The five-man band (from Nashville, Tenn.), first known as Embers Fade, was formed in 2005 and released a debut album, The Moment, in August 2007. The album included a cover of Lil Wayne's song "Lollipop," which was certified gold for sales of half a million units. The group released its third album, The Sum of Who We Are, on April 25.

Admission is $10.

L. Cole and Q Dot Davis, out on "The Sinful Confessions Tour," will perform at 8 p.m. Sunday. Cole is a hip-hop artist from Detroit who also performed as the singer in rock and metal bands.

Singer-songwriter Jim Mize will perform Friday at Vino's and Frontier Circus will open the show at 9:30 p.m.

Mize recently released his third album, a self-titled CD. His first show was as an opening act for The Rockin' Guys, a band whose leader was Danny Grace, who now leads Frontier Circus, who will now return the favor by opening for Mize.

Frontier Circus is marking the release of its new project, Made in Japan 45 Box.

Admission is $5.

Radio station KKPT-FM, "The Point," 94.1, will host its inaugural "Ugly Christmas Sweater Party" at 7 p.m. Friday at Dugan's Pub.

Donations will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Little Rock. Prizes will be awarded for Ugly, Uglier and Ugliest sweaters and the party will feature Christmas music and an appearance by Santa.

LittleRockScene.com will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a three-act show at 9 p.m. Friday at the Revolution Room.

Bands performing are John Neal Rock N Roll, Flat Top Tony and The Purple Canoes and Weedhorse.

Admission is $7.

Lucero will headline Saturday, with The Mighty Soul Brass Band opening at 8:30 p.m.

Lucero, a seven-piece Memphis band with Little Rock native Ben Nichols as lead singer, is bringing the group's "By the Seat of Our Pants" tour to central Arkansas. Now in its 16th year, Lucero released its 12th album, Live From Atlanta, a collection recorded over three nights and released Aug. 12.

Nichols contributed songs to the movie Mud, directed by his brother, Jeff Nichols. The movie was filmed in east Arkansas locations.

Tickets are $21 in advance, $26 the day of the show.

12 Drummers Drumming will drum at 7:30 p.m. Sunday, in what organizers are calling an encore to the earlier Drummers in the House series.

Participants will include Aerion Jamaal Lee, Slavek Bolubah, Travis Nelson, Paul Campbell, Calvin Martin and Stephen Bailey.

The annual Hornucopia will be held at 7 p.m. today at Stickyz Rock 'n' Roll Chicken Shack, and will feature Blues Boy Jag & the Juke Joint Zombies, Two Lane Blacktop, the Marchese-Hendrix Project and Alex Summerlin & Grey Society.

William Clark Green will perform at 9 p.m. Friday.

Green, a native of the Tyler, Texas, area, grew up a fan of Willis Allan Ramsey. Green released his debut album, Dangerous Man, in 2008, following that with Misunderstood in 2010 and Rose Queen, which contained a regional hit, "She Likes the Beatles," in 2013.

Jimbo Mathus & The Tri State Coalition will perform at 10 p.m. Friday at the White Water Tavern.

Mathus, a singer-songwriter-guitarist, got his musical start in the Squirrel Nut Zippers in 1993, but the band disbanded in 2000. He then toured with Buddy Guy for two years, recording on Guy's albums Sweet Tea and Blues Singer. In 2010, he married Jonesboro actress and writer Jennifer Pierce, who had been introduced to Mathus by her brother, Matt Pierce, a member of Mathus' Coalition.

Mathus' latest, and 11th, album, Dark Night of the Soul, came out in 2013.

Admission is $10.

Booyah Dad will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday.
