The Gambler, R Mark Wahlberg plays a literature professor who leads a secret life as a high-stakes gambler. Then he bets it all and offers his own life as collateral while fending off the attention of a paternalistic loan shark (John Goodman). The Imitation Game, PG-13 Benedict Cumberbatch plays British computer pioneer Alan Turing, credited with cracking the German Enigma code that helped the Allies win World War II, but who, after the war, found himself the victim of an unenlightened British establishment because of his sexual orientation. With Keira Knightley, Charles Dance, Matthew Goode, Mark Strong, Tuppence Middleton; directed by Morten Tyldum. Opens Thursday

Into the Woods, PG Director Rob Marshall, who brought the musical Chicago to the big screen, hopes to reprise its success with Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's modern twist on the Brothers Grimm fairytales. With Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Lilla Crawford as Little Red Riding Hood, Johnny Depp as the Wolf, Daniel Huttlestone as Jack (as in the beanstalk), MacKenzie Mauzy as Rapunzel, Chris Pine as Cinderella's Prince, plus James Corden and Emily Blunt as a baker and his wife and Meryl Streep as the witch who has put a curse on them. Unbroken, PG-13 Jack O'Connell plays an Olympic running champion taken prisoner by the Japanese during World War II and who withstands their attempts to ... well, you can guess from the title.
