Jonesboro couples buy site intended for store

JONESBORO — Two Jonesboro couples who did not want a convenience store near a historic district led an effort to buy the lot that was set aside for it.

The site near historic downtown Jonesboro is zoned for commercial use, but Robert and Mary Kay Jones and Brian and Angie Dickson said they didn't believe it would be appropriate for a convenience store.

The Jonesboro Sun reported Friday that a purchase price wasn't available. The couples formed Preserve Main Street LLC to buy the land.

The Kum & Go convenience store chain said it appreciated the feedback it received and that moving on was an "appropriate business decision."

The new owners said there is no definite plan for the former church site but that it will not hold a convenience store.
