Quapaw Quarter Association acquires historic house

LITTLE ROCK — The Quapaw Quarter Association has purchased the historic 1853 William E. Woodruff House in Little Rock.

The structure is arguably the most significant building in Little Rock still in need of restoration. It was acquired with the help of the city of Little Rock and a certified local government grant through the Arkansas Historic Preservation Program.

Association President Laura Sergeant said it plans to donate a façade easement to the city and an interior easement to the historic preservation program to help protect the building and the substantial public investment made toward its preservation.

Sergeant said the easements will protect the building's important features and encourage appropriate rehabilitation in perpetuity.

The group plans to take steps to mitigate termite damage to the structure and make repairs to keep it secure.
