Charges have been filed in an aggravated robbery attempt Saturday night in Benton.

The victim told police that Brent Reeves, 18 of Alexander, and a juvenile suspect attempted to rob him at gunpoint near Sunset Lake on Henry Street, according to a Benton Police Department news release.

Lt. Kevin Russell, a spokesman for the agency, said that it is the department's policy to not release the names of victims.

The victim, Reeves and the juvenile set up a meeting through the smartphone app MeetMe, police said. When the victim arrived, Reeves and the youth threatened him with guns and demanded his cell phone and other personal items, according to the release. The victim sped away, said he heard a "pop" and the back glass of his vehicle shattered.

The Saline County sheriff's office arrested Reeves and the juvenile Sunday on separate charges. Officers recovered BB guns that looked like handguns, which they believed were used to threaten the victim, the release said.

Police charged Reeves with aggravated robbery and criminal mischief in the first degree. He is being held in the Saline County Detention Center.

The report has also been sent to juvenile officers for charges to be filed, police added.
