McDaniel presents funds to ASU engineering school

JONESBORO — Arkansas Attorney General Dustin McDaniel has distributed settlement funds to Arkansas State University's College of Engineering.

McDaniel presented a check for $100,000 to ASU Chancellor Tim Hudson and other school officials. The college plans to use the funds for programs that will benefit consumers and students.

Interim Dean of Engineering Paul Mixon says the money likely will be used to create a cyber-security area, either as a certificate program or a master's degree program.

McDaniel says the funds were the result of a consumer practices fine in a settlement with a major pharmaceutical firm. He says the issues in the case involved engineers at some level, and he thought it was appropriate to apply some of the recovered funds toward the education of more engineers in the state of Arkansas.
