January events mark Civil War anniversary in state

Exhibits and lectures will be held around the state next month to continue marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.

The Arkansas Civil War Sesquicentennial Commission started commemorating the 150th anniversary of the Civil War in 2011 by hosting exhibits and lectures with yearly themes, according to its website. Events in 2015 will focus on emancipation and reconstruction.

Events next month will include a Civil War roundtable discussion Jan. 8 in Batesville; a traveling exhibit at the Nevada County Depot and Museum from Jan. 12 to Feb. 8 in Prescott.; a brown-bag lunch lecture Jan. 21 at the Old State House Museum in Little Rock; and an exhibit highlighting the final months of the Civil War in Arkansas will continue at Historic Washington State Park in Washington during January.
