History tour will visit LR fire station

The Arkansas Historic Preservation Program’s “Sandwiching in History” tour will visit the Little Rock Fire Station No. 2 for its first 2015 stop Jan. 9.

The station, at 1201 S. Commerce St. in the MacArthur Park Historic District, was built in 1917 and served as a fire station until the late 1950s, program Director Frances McSwain said in a Friday statement.

The Craftsman-style building “features exposed rafter tails, false half-timbering, and triangular knee braces under the eaves,” according to the statement. It is being converted into a 30-bed hostel and museum.

The "Sandwiching in History" tour series targets Pulaski County structures and sites.
