Arkansas family of 5 dies in Indiana car crash

A family of five from Arkansas died Friday morning in a car crash in Indiana.

Dennis Nguyen, 43, of Rogers was driving the family south from Tipton City, Ind., when he lost control of the vehicle, overcorrected and hit the grassy median before veering into the northbound lane, according to an Indiana State Police report.

A semi-truck hauling 30,000 pounds of pickles tried to move onto the shoulder of the highway to avoid hitting Nguyen's Jaguar but still hit the vehicle on the driver's side, the report states.

The driver of the semi-truck was not injured, but Nguyen and his family had to be extricated from the vehicle, according to the police.

Police pronounced Nguyen; his wife Thu-Ha Cao, 44; and two of his children dead at the scene, the report said. The third child, who was sitting in the back seat of the car, was air lifted to a hospital in Indianapolis, where she later died.

Police did not release the names of the children because their identifications had not been verified.

All of the family members were believed to be wearing seat belts, the report states.
