Officers responded about 10:10 p.m. Wednesday to UAMS Medical Center, where Ira Montgomery, who was shot twice in the stomach, was having surgery. His condition was unknown late Friday.

Nicole Neal told police at the hospital that Montgomery, 42, had been shot outside her home in the 3000 block of Adams Street, according to a police report. She said Montgomery had been watching TV when a man and woman knocked on the door, and he went outside to speak to them. Neal then heard arguing and two gunshots, the report says.

Further circumstances of the shooting were unclear. Investigators went to Neal's home and didn't find a crime scene. They interviewed Neal's husband and son, who confirmed her account of the shooting, according to the report.

No arrests had been made in the case Friday.
