Winter-weather advisory set in Northwest Arkansas

A winter weather advisory is in effect for Benton and Washington counties in Northwest Arkansas until 6 p.m. Saturday, the National Weather Service said.

Snow and sleet mixed with rain, coming in from the west, will end during the evening, with accumulations amounting to an inch or less, forecasters said.

In Oklahoma, state highway crews were clearing roads and bridges after a cold front delivered snow to much of the state.

South Arkansas is expected to see some severe thunderstorms Saturday, according to the National Weather Service.

The southeast part of the state will have thunderstorms midday Saturday into the evening that could produce damaging winds and large hail, according to John Robinson, warning coordination meteorologist.

Rain in the northwest will stop Saturday night, and the rain will exit the southeast part of the state Sunday evening. Rainfall amounts will total up to 1/4 inch in the northwest and about 1 inch in the southeast.

Northwest Arkansas could potentially see some light snow or sleet before the precipitation ends, Robinson said.

Robinson also said that winter weather could hit the state in the form of sleet or freezing rain Thursday or Friday of next week.
