A man shot and killed someone he said broke into his home Tuesday in north Pulaski County, according to the sheriff's office.
Deputies responded to reports of a burglary in progress at 10700 W. Centennial Road between Jacksonville and Cabot about 5 a.m., said sheriff's office spokesman Lt. Carl Minden.
There, deputies found Kassell Duran, 22, crying in the doorway of the home and Zachary Blalock, 21, sitting on a couch inside. There were shell casings on the ground and a black semiautomatic handgun on the couch, deputies said.
A man, later identified as 25-year-old Garrett Cowsert of Sherwood, was lying on the ground. He was later pronounced dead.
Blalock told deputies, "He broke in and I shot him," according to a report.
Minden said the case would be turned over to the prosecuting attorney's office, which would decide whether to file charges.
