A National Weather Service meteorologist says Arkansas will get snow and a mix of wintry precipitation on Sunday afternoon.
Areas north of a line extending from Mena to Conway to Blytheville should expect to receive snow, while areas south of that line will get freezing rain and sleet, said John Robinson, the service's warning coordination meteorologist in Little Rock.
Northern parts of the state could receive up to five inches of snow, while central Arkansas can expect a dusting of snow, about an inch, according to a National Weather Service map.
Robinson said in a statement that wintry precipitation "will gradually diminish" Sunday night, with the majority of the weather moving east. The winter weather will exit the state before sunrise Monday, according to Robinson.
Temperatures will drop into the 20s Sunday night in west central, central and east central Arkansas, Robinson said.
"Where wind does not help to dry the pavement, there will be icy places on the roads on Monday morning," he said. "Obviously, with more precipitation expected in the northern parts of the state, the biggest road problems will be there."
Another round of winter weather will start late Monday night into Tuesday morning, Robinson said. Freezing rain and sleet should land in the northern half of the state, but warm air will "gradually" melt the ice into rain. Ice accumulations up to 1/4 of an inch could occur in north central Arkansas.
Wintry precipitation will "probably linger" in northern Arkansas on Tuesday afternoon, and another winter weather system could occur later in the week, Robinson said.
