BASKETBALL Ex-Hogs to speak at Tip Off Club

Former Arkansas basketball players Pat Bradley, Ernie Murry, Blake Eddins and Allie Freeman will be the guest speakers today at the Downtown Tip Off Club at the Wyndham Riverfront Hotel in North Little Rock.

Lunch will be served at 11:15 a.m., and the program will begin at noon. Admission is $15 for members, $20 for nonmembers. Memberships dues are $40.

Hendrix women roll

The Hendrix College women’s basketball team led the entire game and by as many as 23 points in a 69-48 victory over Sewanee on Sunday at Grove Gymnasium in Conway.

Caitlin Kriesel-Bigler led Hendrix (8-11, 2-6 Southern Athletic Association) with 17 points, while Katie Coughran had 12 points and Anna King added 11.

BASEBALL Swatters Club rescheduled

Today’s Swatter’s Club has been rescheduled for Feb. 11 at the Guest House International Hotel in Fayetteville.

The program, which features Arkansas baseball Coach Dave Van Horn, starts at noon with lunch.

UAM beats St. Mary’s

Arkansas-Monticello scored 14 runs in the final two innings to beat St. Mary’s 16-5 on Sunday at Minute Maid Park in Houston in seven innings.

Tyler Caruthers’ three-run home run capped a nine-run seventh and gave the Boll Weevils (2-0) a mercy-rule victory over the 15th-ranked team in NCAA Division II.

Caruthers finished 3 for 4 with 4 RBI and 3 runs scored, while Ben Agredano and Austin Braddock each drove in three runs. D’Marco Poindexter, Braddock, Mitchell Dornblut, Alex Lang and Evan Comeau each scored two runs.

Turner Neely (1-0) earned the victory for UAM, after getting Drake Roberts to foul out to end the sixth.

SOFTBALL SAU loses two to Valdosta State

Southern Arkansas lost twice to Valdosta State on Sunday in Pensacola, Fla. by scores of 10-2 and 11-7.

The Lady Muleriders were limited to two hits in the first game. In the second game, they scored seven runs on 13 hits and led 6-4 after five innings before the Lady Blazers scored seven runs in the sixth to lead 11-6.

Shelby Miller led the Lady Muleriders in the second game by going four for four with a home run and three runs scored.

TENNIS Oklahoma State defeats UA women

Arkansas fell 6-0 to Oklahoma State on Sunday at the Billingsley Tennis Center in Fayetteville Sunday.

The only Arkansas victory came in No. 2 doubles where Yang Pang and Oleksandra Shkorupeieva defeated Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez 6-3.

Oklahoma State won all six matches in singles. Viktoriya Lushkova defeated Pang, 6-1, 6-4; Kanyapat Narattana defeated Shannon Hudson 7-5; Megan McCray defeated Sarah McLean, 7-5, 6-3; Katarina Adamovic defeated Kimberly-Ann Surin 6-3, 6-5; Mari defeated Shkorupeieva 6-2, 6-3 and Alvarez defeated Huxley 6-0, 6-2.

In doubles play, Narattan and Lushkova defeated Sruin and Huxley 6-0. Guttormsen and Adamovic defeated McLean and Hudson 6-3.

BOWLING ASU finishes third

Arkansas State went 2-1 and finished third at the Prairie View A&M Invitational being held at the Bowling International Training and Research Center in Arlington, Texas.

The No. 1-ranked Red Wolves (51-16) defeated No. 10 Sam Houston State 4-3 to take third place after falling to No. 8 Vanderbilt 4-1 in the first match of the bracket play. Nebraska defeated Vanderbilt 4-3 to claim the championship.

Arkansas State finished the tournament with a 10-3 record.
