LEROY FORRESTER, 70, of Roland passed away Sunday, February 2,

  1. He was born in Pulaski County on March 13, 1943 to the late Henry and Sleetie Chew Forrester. He worked for the Pulaski County Road Department for 30 years and attended the Assembly of God Church.

He is survived by his wife, of 51 years, Mable Gilbert Forrester of Roland; daughter, Connie Harrawood, of Conway; son, Tommy Forrester, of Roland; five grandchildren, Bridget, Scott, Liz, Ryan, and Thurman; five brothers, Thurman, J.Z.(Red), Steve, Otis and Hershel Forrester all of Roland; and one sister, Judy Forrester, of Hot Springs. He was preceded in death by his son, Mark Forrester; grandson, Derick Forrester; and brother, Cecil (Alfred) Forrester.

–––––•–––––HUBERT D. HENDERSON, 84, of North Little Rock went to be with the Lord Sunday night, February 2, 2014. He was born October 2, 1929 in Scranton, Ark., to the late Travis and Mary Cleo Hancock Henderson. Hubert retired from Stroud Environmental, and he proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a long-time member of Capital City Freewill Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his son Jim Lovell and three sisters. Remaining to cherish his memory are his wife of 39 years, Helen Davis Henderson; three daughters: Sherry Lynn (Eddie) McPherson of Greenbrier, Barrie (Bub) Rhoades of Greenbrier, and Anita (Nick) Keathley of North Little Rock; four sons: Doyle Lovell of Alabama, Steve Lovell of Illinois, Donnie Lovell of New Jersey, and Ronnie Lovell of New Jersey; 16 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three sisters; and three brothers.

–––––•–––––PHYLLIS HILL, 65, of Little Rock passed away on February 1, 2014. She was born on October 27, 1948 to the late Mr. and Mrs. Agnew in Little Rock, Arkansas. Phyllis loved her family with her whole heart; she was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She enjoyed going fishing with her family and loved collecting.

Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Agnew; granddaughter, Nikki Keenzel and aunt, Frieda McGrew.

She is survived by her loving husband of 46 years, Basil Hill; daughter, Tracy Cagle; grandchildren, Amber and Roger “Bubba” Keenzel; five great grandchildren, Rayne, River, Wesley, Tori and Emma and a host of family and friends who all loved her and will miss her dearly. –––––•–––––LAWRENCE JEROME HOBBY, age 75, of Mabelvale, passed away Sunday, February 2, 2014. He was born May 25, 1938 in Long Beach, California. Mr. Hobby retired from the Navy having served during the Vietnam War and later retired from IBM. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thelmer and Zella Hobby; wife, Antoinette Hobby; twin brother, Gary Hobby and a sister, Hazel Martin and husband Emory L. Sr. He is survived by two brothers, Alfred L. Hobby and wife Catherine and Phillip N. Hobby and wife Dana; sister, Eva Jean Gehring and a host of nieces and nephews.

BENTON — Opal Rhodes of Benton passed away February 2, 2014. She was born July 30, 1907 in Antoine, Arkansas to the late Rufus Patrick Malone and Dona Ward Malone. Opal was also preceded in death by her husband Frank Rhodes, five sisters and one brother. She enjoyed fishing and golf. She started the Longhills Ladies Golf Association in 1956. Her most enjoyable activity was china painting. She started painting in 1960 and continued for 30 years. Her daughter and grandchildren cherish the many pieces of china they have received from her through the years.

She is survived by her daughter, Billie Henry, of Benton; three grandchildren, Jo Ann Bowen and husband Melvin, of Benton; Pat Henry and wife Betsy, Mountain Home; and Jane Willis and husband Ricky, of Benton; great-grandchildren, Matt Bowen and wife Sophie, Kelley Burrow and husband Clint, Erica Erck and husband John, Katie Henry, Lauren Hundley and husband Scott, and Stacey Willis, great-great-grandchildren, Maya Burrow, Jack Erck, Ava Erck and Liv Erck.

–––––•–––––BOONEVILLE — Jeral Lee Hampton, 92, of Booneville died Monday, February 3, 2014, in a Fort Smith hospital surrounded by his family. He was born July 28, 1921.

He was a 1939 graduate of Booneville High School and a 1943 graduate of Ouachita Baptist University. A veteran of both World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was retired from the National Guard as a Lieutenant Colonel.

He left a legacy of dedication to many things. He worked tirelessly until the very end of his earthly life for his God, his family, his church, his alma maters, his country and the community of Booneville. He served as Chairman of the Board of Directors of First Western Bancshares, Inc. where he still came to work most every day. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Booneville for 71 years where he taught Sunday School for over 50 years, served as a Deacon for more than 60 years and was a Church Trustee. In addition, he served on the Booneville School Board for 16 years and was a member of the Ouachita Board of Trustees for 32 years.

He was deeply committed to the growth and success of both Booneville and Logan County as evidenced by his involvement in so many organizations. He was serving as President of the Booneville Industrial Corporation and Petit Jean Regional Foundations as well as a Natural Resource Conservation Service District Director at the time of his death. He was Past President of the Booneville Chamber of Commerce, Booneville Rotary Club, and Soil Conservation Service as well as past board member of the Western Arkansas Planning and Development Corporation, Arkansas Housing Authority, Westark Foundation Board, and Area Agency on Aging. He was instrumental in recruiting numerous industries and jobs to Booneville and was recently honored with a street named for him.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Betty, his parents, John L. and Cara Hampton, and two sisters, Wanda Smith and Mary Lou Lyon. He is survived by a son, John Taylor Hampton and wife, Kelli of Rogers; a daughter, Jane and sonin-law, Jim Woolley of Booneville; four grandchildren, Ty Hampton and wife, Serenity of Rogers, Cara Conly and husband, Clay of Bentonville, Brent Woolley and wife, Coni of Booneville, and Beth Carlisle and husband, Josh of Little Rock. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Ashlynn, Kheringtyn, Cailyn and Londyn Hampton of Rogers and Tripp and Grace Conly of Bentonville.

A private family graveside service will take place on Wednesday, February 5 at 1 p.m. at Oak Hill Cemetery under the direction of Roberts Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Booneville for anyone who knew and loved Jeral. The family will visit with friends following the service in the Jeral L. Hampton Meeting Place across the street from the church.

–––––•–––––CAMDEN — Herbert Delton Gates, passed away February 3, 2014 in Sherwood, Arkansas under the care of Arkansas Hospice surrounded by his loving family. He was born on October 21, 1924 in Gurdon to Herbert Wesley and Ruby Gates. He was a long-time member of First United Methodist Church of Camden and an accountant with International Paper Company for 35 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Jean Boulden, and his beloved wife of 54 years, Doris McCoy Gates. He is survived by his sister Jo Davies of Gurdon; daughters Gayle (Gordon) Beeson of Sherwood and Carol (Mike) Neal of Magnolia; granddaughters Megan (Cale) Turner of Little Rock, Anna (David) Cook of North Little Rock, and Samantha and Suzannah Neal, both of Magnolia; great granddaughter Jarrett Turner of Little Rock; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by both of her parents. –––––•–––––HEBER SPRINGS — Mrs. Willie D. (Bowling, Brown) Moore, 84, left this world Sunday, Feb. 2, 2014. She was born and raised in the Culpepper Mountain Community near Clinton, Ark. She was a lifelong member of the Church of Christ. Willie retired from Southwestern Bell (AT&T) after 30 years of service.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Carl Brown and W.R. Moore; her beloved son Mark Brown; her parents William Fred and Dovie (Nicholson) Bowling; five brothers and two sisters. Willie is survived by her loving daughter, Leasa (Carl) Herndon of Heber Springs, Ark.; three grandsons, John Herndon (Jenny) of Atlanta, Ga., Timothy Brown (Torie) of Portland, Ore., and Matthew Brown of Cabot, Ark. She also has three great-grandchildren and many nephews, nieces and friends.

She enjoyed caring for other people and especially her family and sharing memories of by-gone days. She is the last surviving child of Fred and Dovie Bowling. Her bond with our family will be so greatly missed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at Arkansas Hospice for all their care and support. He was born in Lonoke County on May 26, 1933, to William Alfred and Lois Cole Brown. Darrell served in the Army for over 20 years, was a Korean War veteran and retired as an Army Staff Sgt. After his Army career, he worked as a maintenance man at the State Capitol in Little Rock, then at Maybelline in North Little Rock.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 12 years, Evelyn (Gilbert); and stepdaughter, Cindy Carlson; his parents; sisters, Elsie Bailey of Lonoke, Atheleen McGarr of Lonoke, Blanche Sarras of Shawnee Mission, Kan.; brothers, Alfred Brown of California, W.A. Brown of Jacksonville, Gene Brown of Little Rock, and Donald Brown of Raleigh, N.C. He is survived by one sister, Katherine McEnroe of California, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Lonoke Nursing and Rehab for their love and care over the years, and the staff at Arkansas Hospice for making his last days peaceful.

–––––•–––––MAGNOLIA — Ann Reeves Eddy, 80 of Magnolia, Ark., died Saturday, Feb. 1, 2014, at the Wentworth Place in Magnolia, Ark. Ann was born March 26, 1933, in Birmingham, Ala., and was a member of the Church of Christ. She was a graduated of Magnolia High School where she was a majorette and cheerleader and attended the Stephens College for Women in Columbia, Mo., and Southern State College (SAU) in Magnolia, Ark. She graduated from the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville where she was a proud member of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority.

Ann taught the first and second grades at Magnolia Public Schools and was a substitute teacher for many years. In her later years, she was the secretary treasurer for Reeves Land and Timber Company.

She was born in Taylorville, Illinois, on January 7, 1932, to the late Glen and Alice (Higdon) Painter. Dorris retired from the communications department at St. Vincent Infirmary in Little Rock. She was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Little Rock, and was a lover of animals.

Survivors include her children, Anita Spahr (Steve) of Bartlesville, Okla., Keith Sanford (Tina) of Northwest Arkansas; siblings, Sidney Painter (Susie) of Maumelle, Patricia Henry (Mike) of Little Rock; grandchildren, Brandi Sanford, Jessica Applegate, Josh Sanford, Andy Spahr, Jaime Spahr; and great granddaughter, Alexia Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her husband, James Reynolds.
