A 36-year-old Pine Bluff man was shot twice in the leg after he insulted a woman only to learn her son was standing nearby and armed with a gun, authorities said.
The son, identified as 32-year-old Corey Henderson, turned himself in to police Wednesday and faces a charge of first-degree battery in the Sunday morning shooting, according to Pine Bluff Police Department spokesman Lt. David Price.
Police say the victim was in the parking lot of an apartment complex at 500 W. 27th Ave. in Pine Bluff when he saw a woman and used a derogatory term while accusing of her being a prostitute.
"Cory Henderson became angry because he said that was his mother," police wrote in a report, using a different spelling for Henderson's first name. "C. Henderson then pulled a pistol from his person. [The victim] said he apologized many times about the comment, because he didn't know it was Cory's mom."
The victim said Henderson then began shooting, firing three or four times but missing with each shot.
"[The victim] then said to Cory, 'will is you gonna hit me or not,'" police wrote, noting Henderson then shot the victim twice in the leg.
The victim went home and was then taken to the Jefferson Regional Medical Center for treatment.
