Christopher A Sanders

Arrested in Pulaski County, AR on February 5, 2014

A brief police chase ended late Tuesday night after a driver who sped off from a traffic stop lost control of his vehicle and it hit a building, police said.

Christopher Sanders , 25, was arrested a short time after he fled from the crash scene, according to a North Little Rock Police Department report. He remained in the Pulaski County jail Wednesday in lieu of $7,000 bond on charges of fleeing by vehicle, fleeing on foot and obstructing governmental operations.

According to the report, an officer stopped Sanders' Buick Century about 10:15 p.m. near Pershing Boulevard and Schaer Street because it had a taillight out.

Sanders told an officer that he didn't have any identification before providing a false name and saying he was born in 1990 and was 21 years old, the report said.

"I radioed for an additional unit due to the subject giving a date of birth where he didn't know his age as well as his level of nervousness," the officer wrote in the report.

After hearing the radio transmission, Sanders reached for the gear shift, the report said, noting that the officer warned him "don't do it" before Sanders took off.

The officer returned to his patrol car and pursued the fleeing vehicle north on Percy Machin Drive and then onto Pike Avenue, where it hit a building in the 3300 block of the street, police said.

The Century stopped running a block later and Sanders ran off, the report said. He was caught in front of 3715 Marion St.

According to the report. the building suffered "extensive damage," though no monetary estimate was available. A large hole in the wall nearest Pike Avenue was still visible in the building Wednesday morning.
