FAYETTEVILLE — The Arkansas Business Hall of Fame is set to induct four new members at a ceremony in Little Rock.

The event is Friday evening at the Statehouse Convention Center.

Those being honored include Thomas "Mack" McLarty, chairman of the McLarty Cos. and former White House chief of staff under Bill Clinton. He is to be inducted by former U.S. Sen. David Pryor.

Other honorees are James Faulkner of Little Rock, founder several companies; Mark Simmons, chairman of Simmons Foods Inc. & Affiliates; and the late Stanley Reed of Marianna, a former Arkansas Farm Bureau president and former chairman of the University of Arkansas System board of trustees.

No doubt Mack McLarty was chosen because he is a Clinton buddy rather than because of his involvement in the businesses begun by his father and grandfather, and what he has done in his own business, not political, career. Focus should be on his contribution to business in Arkansas. With David Pryor using the occasion to campaign for his son, the focus will likely be more on McLarty being a friend of Bill and Mark Pryor running for reelection. Old Guard Democrat politics at its finest.

Reed seems to be a political add on as well.
