Griffin looks at run for lieutenant governor

By The Associated Press

This article was published February 6, 2014 at 1:53 p.m.

Republican U.S. Rep. Tim Griffin says he's considering running for Arkansas lieutenant governor this year, potentially shaking up the race just months after announcing his retirement from Congress.

Griffin said Thursday that he's weighing whether to seek the party's nomination for lieutenant governor. Griffin represents central Arkansas' 2nd Congressional District and announced in October that he wouldn't seek a third term this year.

Griffin is a former interim United States attorney and was elected to Congress in 2010 and 2012.

State Reps. Charlie Collins and Andy Mayberry are already seeking the GOP nomination for lieutenant governor. Former Highway Commissioner John Burkhalter is the only Democratic candidate.

There is no incumbent. Republican Mark Darr stepped down last week over ethics and campaign violations.

I think it is a great idea. It would make him even more irrelevant than being a Tea Party minion in the "do nothing Congress."

Congressman Griffin has served us well in the US House of Representatives. Tim has worked tirelessly on our behalf, as has the House. The Senate, unfortunately, has not. Reid & his fellow Democrats (Pryor included) have worked against the average citizen and have refused to take up bills authored in the House. The ACA is their "crowning acheivement" and I hope it drags them to hell.

He might as well leave congress. After Obama said that "he don't need no stinkin' congress" since he has a pen and a phone. What a narcissist demagogue Obama is. What somnambulistic sycophants his followers are.
