Police: LR student arrested after gun found in sock

By David Harten

This article was published February 7, 2014 at 5:48 p.m.

A student at McClellan Magnet High School in Little Rock was arrested Friday morning after a school resource officer found a pistol tucked into his sock.

Little Rock Police Department spokesman Lt. Sidney Allen said school security guards noticed three black males exit a "suspicious vehicle" on the school’s campus Friday morning and enter the school. Resource officers later called three students who were believed to be in the car into the school’s administration office and scanned them for “weapons and/or contraband,” Allen said.

During the search, Allen said, an officer found a Raven Arms .25 caliber pistol hidden in 18-year-old Martez Moore's sock.

The weapon was confiscated by authorities and Moore was taken into custody around 11 a.m. by Little Rock police officers. Moore was charged with one count of possession of a handgun on school property and taken to the Pulaski County jail, Allen said. The two other students, who are juveniles, were not charged.

Well we can plainly see what the "MAGNET" schools are attracting.

McClellan is a great school . People always look at the bad things going on at McClellan . You wouldn't know what kind of school McClellan is until you've experienced it yourself. So therefore keep your negative comments to yourself for future references.

The school has a 1 rating from greatschoolsdotorg--an independent rating organization. Student comments praise the current principal as trying to turn the school around. Many of the student comments contain spelling and grammar errors. The problem is not just with the high school; it is the middle schools which feed into it. I think that the liberals spend too much time trying to fund head start. Instead, we should be funding reading and writing programs from 4th through 8th grades. Students who achieve high levels of reading in middle school can master most subjects put before them. Students who are not reading on level by 5th grade need extra classes in reading. The school district should offer free summer programs which include reading, math, and recreational activities. The Little Rock crime problems will not turn around without turning the schools around.
