Traskwood man killed in I-30 multiple-car wreck

An accident on Interstate 30 East in Saline County on Thursday left a man dead and four other people injured, the Arkansas State Police said.

Shortly before 8 a.m., Richard Bredenstein, 21, of Traskwood was driving east in a 1991 Chevrolet pickup and hit the rear of a 2007 Chevrolet van driven by Jeffrey Tudor, 53, of Benton, which was stopped in the lane of traffic behind three other cars, according to a preliminary state police accident report. The impact set off a chain reaction, causing Tudor's van to hit a Chevrolet sport utility vehicle, which hit a Volkswagen Jetta, which hit a Honda Civic, the report states.

Bredenstein was killed in the accident, the 33rd fatality on Arkansas roads so far this year, according to preliminary state police figures.

Injured were Tudor; the Chevrolet SUV driver, Alexis Young, 35; her passenger, Rahim King, 5; and Hunter Bredenstein, 19. They were taken to hospitals, but their conditions weren't immediately known.

The drivers of the Civic and Jetta weren't hurt, state police said.

The skies were cloudy and the roads dry at the time of the accident, according to the report.
