Augusta man held in Searcy bank robbery

Authorities have arrested an Augusta man in the armed robbery last week of a Searcy bank.

Octavius Anthony, 40, has been charged with aggravated robbery in the Feb. 3 holdup of the First Community Bank at 1201 N. Maple St, the Searcy Police Department said in a statement late Monday.

A robber "brandishing a pistol" entered the bank shortly before 1 p.m. and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash, Searcy police said. No customers were inside the bank at the time.

A witness outside the bank saw the robber then flee on a bicycle toward the Country Meadows Apartments, 909 Holmes Road.

Anthony, who "was developed as a suspect through the course of the investigation," is being held at the White County jail in lieu of $150,000 bond, Cpl. Steve Hernandez said in a statement.
