Bryant daycare employee charged with child endangerment

A daycare employee is in police custody in Bryant after she was accused of dragging an infant across carpeting, causing burns on the child’s body.

According to a news release from the Bryant Police Department, Keyuanna Coats was arrested around 12:30 p.m. Tuesday following a complaint by the mother of an 8-month-old boy who was enrolled at Wisdom Tree Learning Academy, 5313 Highway 5, where Coats is employed. The mother claimed she discovered burns on her son’s elbows after picking him up from the daycare on Monday night.

Coats later told investigators that she had dragged the boy across the floor twice after he repeatedly entered an area where cleaning supplies are kept. Coats told authorities that she “never intended to cause harm to him.”

Coats was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a minor, a felony. She is being held at the Saline County jail. Bryant police spokesman Sgt. Todd Crowson said the amount of Coats’ bond wasn't immediately known. Crowson also was unable to immediately confirm Coats' age or city of residence.
